Family Pictures

So, I know that I have been a blogging fool lately.. but I just have family on the mind these days. Chris' parents were here this weekend, and his dad took these family pictures of us. I am so lucky to have Chris home this week, so I will not be on full-time mama duty alone until next week. Oh... for everyone reading this, I need some movie suggestions. Chris and I have the hardest time agreeing on a movie to rent when we go to Hollywood video. Many times we leave empty handed, because we couldn't find one that both of us would like. We usually can agree on some dramas and documentaries, but other than that.... our movie taste is totally different. We usually get stuck looking in new releases.. and is it just me or is there a huge lack of good movies coming out lately? What I need from you guys is to tell me your top few favorite movies (don't think too hard about it, just write what comes to your mind). Also let me know what kind of movie it is drama, documentary, romantic comedy, comedy, action etc... Include new movies as well as older movies. This way I can go to rent a movie with a list instead of leaving empty handed. Thanks!!

Cute pictures, Kara! You look great! After I have a baby, I look drained and exhausted for about a month, no matter how hard I try to look good!!
Hmmm...movies... we just rented Evan Almighty, which I really liked. A few recent (and slightly uncommon) ones that I like are Fly Boys (war movie/drama about WW1 fighter pilots), The Prestige (drama) and The Illusionist, which are both pretty similar, but I like the Prestige better. I don't know if you've seen American Dreamz, but I loved it and thought it was halarious!! It's a comedy and I would say a political and cultural satire. Hairspray is my newest fave!! LOVED IT! I think you'd like it, if you haven't already seen it. I think it's still in theatres, so you may have to wait until it's out on DVD. You've probably seen some of those, so I'm sorry if I wasn't any help!! Anyways, love ya!!

Oh, by the way, other than Evan Almighty, those movies aren't really new releases, but have come out in the last year or so.

Thanks for the suggestions Adrienne. I love the office... so I imagine that I might like Evan Almighty as well. I am also glad that you recommended Hairspray, because I thought that I would like it, but I hadn't heard a review from anyone who saw it.

Your blog has the best pics! Hmmm, movies I like. Midnight Cowboy, an early Dustin Hoffman movie, I guess you'd call it drama. A little melancholy, though. Party Girl, Have you seen that one? Almost any movie with Parker Posie in it scores points with me. A kind of silly comedy, very cute. And (one of the very few movies I've watched recently) the World's Fastest Indian. Which you've probably already seen. All ones that DH and I both liked, despite our very different tastes. I'll think of more later. Hope you're doing well, and we'd love to come over and entertain Sophia for a couple hours once you're on your own, let me know if and when that would be helpful!

KARA! I can't believe that you are out and about already and that you look so great! I just want to be like you. I like the haircut too. I haven't rented a movie in ages and I'm not up on new releases but back in CV we went to (and both liked) Catch a Fire (drama) and Good Night and Good Luck (documentary/drama). Don't see Shrek 3. The Prestige was awesome - I need to see that one again. Enough from me. Tootles.

Kara Lynn, you look awesome! I can't believe you just had a baby. I haven't seen any great movies lately, but I really liked Hairspray. I don't know if Chris would love it, but it's cute.

I'm not sure that you and I agree on movies either...but, here are some of my favs. #1 - When Harry Met Sally. #2 - Houseguest - I think I made you watch that once...with Sinbad in it. #3 - Legally Blonde. Isn't that pathetic? It makes me sound like and awfully shallow human being, but movies are for enjoyment, right? We were just at the video store recently and couldn't agree on anything...so, we ended up renting the British version of The Office. Funny, but a lot raunchier. I wouldn't recommend it for those that blush easily if you catch my drift. Jeff's also been OBSESSED with WW2 stuff lately. We're sending you the PBS documentary on it soon. Anyway...you do look fantastic and I just could eat the baby up! CALL SOON!

You look beautiful. I can't believe you are running around and out and about.
Hmm, movies. When Austin and I get in this situation we check out the AFI's list of the top 100 movies. Do a google search for them and you can see the top 100 movies ever, according to them. A good suspense movie (since it is October after all) that is on the list is Rear Window.
Also, Austin and I just barely rented a foreign film called Bella Martha aka Mostly Martha. It was good. I think you'd like it.

Sorry I'm a little late. Congrats on your little boy. He is adorable. You look fabulouse as well.
Off the top of my head...
Best in Show ( Comedy)
Sleepless in Seattle (Romantic Comedy)
Devil wears Prada ( Comedy)
Father of the Bride (Romantic Comedy)
Dumb and Dumber ( Comedy)
I only like movies that are completely mindless.

When you mentioned documentaries I had to tell you about the 7 Up series (7 up Plus, 21 UP, 28 UP, 35 UP, 42 UP and 49 UP). They started 50 years ago when I documented 20 7 year old school children in England, from all different walks of life, to see what life was like for them. They have since followed up every 7 years. A few dropped out, so it is down to 10 or 12. The last one came out last year. It is so neat to watch them change and then to guess what they'll be like in the next movie.

We also liked the Namesake... but I don't know if it is out on DVD yet. It is about an Indian family that immigrates to New York and what it is like for their children to be torn between the two cultures.

BTW, you look great! And you are going to handle your first 2-kid-week-alone like a pro!
