Warning... Lot's of Pictures

"With me it's all or nothing..." $100 to the first person who can name what musical that line is from.. okay maybe just a big thumbs up. Has anyone noticed my on and off again love affair with blogging? It's like I am either posting every day or I skip and don't do anything. That's kind of how I am with housework. I wish that I could be one of those people who maintains a clean house, but I usually let it get cluttered (which is easy to do with a toddler) and then I manically stay up cleaning when I can't handle the clutter anymore. Anyways.. I have a lot of catch up to do, so here are some pictures to show what has been going on in these parts of the world.

Kim and Jackson were here visiting from Virginia a couple of weeks ago, and it was so good to see them. Every time we see Jackson he has changed so much.

Chris snapped these cute pictures on a lazy Sunday

Oh how my Gaby Baby is growing. Gabe is obsessed with bending his body back so he can look at everything upside down. I think that he may be an artist someday since he likes looking at things from a different viewpoint. We also have been trying rice cereal with him, which has not been very successful. Poor kid, he is such a chunk and looks so sad when we eat without him, but he keeps gagging and spitting the cereal out. I think he just wants to go straight to steak or something.

We spent this last weekend in Seaside with Chris' family. I love Seaside, because it reminds me of my childhood. When I was a kid, we went to Seaside every summer for a few days because my dad had a work convention there. It was fun to take my own kids there and spend time with the familia.

Last but not least.. my little Sofia. Chris was out one day with her, and he took these pictures. Sofia is such a sassy little thing. We are attempting to do some potty training right now, and so far she has had 5 accidents in the last 24 hours and gone pee in the toilet 3 times. I am going to keep at it for a couple of more days, but if she still doesn't seem like she is that into it, we may wait a little longer. We have a sticker chart and a dora potty, and training pants... I am not sure of what else to do? Whatever I do, I want to remain relaxed, because poop and pee are not things I want to get in power struggles over! Well folks, that is it!!

Oklahoma!!
And I believe they pronounce it "all er nuthin'."

You can either send me that $100 or take a picture of your thumbs up for me. Gee, I hope it got it right.

Great pics Kara. I too have a love/hate relationship with blogging.

Here is one for you:

"Will it grow?"
"It will."
"Then have no doubt about it..."

Those are some cute pictures Kara. Good luck with the potty training it sounds like you are doing every thing right so if she still isn't getting it than, yeah maybe try again when she is more ready. I hope it works out for you it's nice to only have one in diapers!
I am the same way with house cleaning and cooking. I'll go for a week or two at a time of being so good and consistent and then some thing happens and I totally slack, I'm glad to know I'm not the only one ;)

I miss you when you're sporadic!! Loved the pictures! Coming from one who JUST went through the potty training thing, I hope it goes well for you! I'm so glad that I waited when it didn't work the first few times. Much less stressful! I tried everything and nothing worked. A couple of months later, I tried the same things again and it worked instantly. I was amazed at how easy it was then. Every kid is different. Good luck! I'm cheering for Sofia!

I'm disappointed in myself that I can't name the musical. But I think Margaret may be on to it...

Hi Kara!
Owen left for Seaside this morning with Brady's parents. This is his first little trip away from home without me, and I miss him already. I know he'll have so much fun though. They're only going for one night, so he'll be back tomorrow evening. I have a LONG list of things I'm hoping to check off of my to-do list while he's gone and I only have one kid to take care of. I'm sure I'll get every single one of them done. ;)

I swear, your stories about your kids seem to parallel mine so often. Quincy and food...to this day (he's 9+ months old now) he won't eat anything that is pureed. For the first couple of months I thought he just didn't like food or something, but then I figured out that it must be a texture thing because I gave him some solid foods (like actually solid solids, not pureed "solids") and he voraciously ate them as if I'd finally figured out the one thing that had been missing in his life. He will eat an entire banana whole, but he gags if I try to feed him a spoonful of mashed banana. Ditto for apples/applesauce, baked yam/pureed yam, crackers and bread/baby cereal. I just cut up tiny bites and he eats whatever the family is eating. So your comment about Gabe just wanting to go straight to steak is probably right on.

As for potty training...it felt like potty training Owen went through several stages, and it often felt like we'd take 2 steps forward and then 1 step back. Travel especially seemed to set him back. I finally decided to try something that I never thought I would do: M&M's. Worked like a charm! But I think the cardinal rule in potty training is not to push them if they're not ready. Like you said, pee and poop are not things to be battling a 2-year-old over.

I love all the pictures. Such cuties! Quincy has that Zutano monkey outfit, and he wears it all the time. It's a fave.

Oh, and I saw that you signed up for Creative Development Lab--yea!! It's so fun!

OK, that's it for my random stream of consciousness commenting for now.

Land sakes, Kara, give the poor boy some banana or avocado. Have you tasted the rice cereal? BLECHH! Maybe he has taste.

LOVE YOU. And your pictures. I really need to meet Gabe. I'm flirting with the idea of visiting you over my spring break. I really need to get away from here. Are you free sometime between April 14-20th? Let me know.

Margaret,
Bingo my dear, and thank your for the pronunciation correction. Secret Garden.. let me finish your phrase "We'll have the grandest garden ever scene" Oh... I could go on forever. Here is another one for you:
"So you ain't got any family? Well who said you needed one? Aint you glad, nobody's waiting up for you?"
K-Dog (my new code nickname for you)
Thanks for slacking on the housework with me. Misery loves company (not that I am miserable at all.. I thought that just sounded good).
Adrienne,
Please join us in this musical trivia, and I do keep thinking about you and potty training, because I know that Sofia will ultimately decide when she is ready.
Shahnaz,
I am so excited to do creative development with you. Sofia and Owen can bond. It is good to hear that other babies are similar to Gabe. I get worried for a minute, but then I remember that as long as I am nursing right now, food isn't super important until later. Good luck getting things done on your list. Did you ever think one would feel like a break?
Juliette,
For lands sake..okay.... it is true that rice cereal is gross. Most store bought baby food is also nasty, so we will see what I can whip that boy up.
Amanda,
It will make my day, no week, no month, no year.. if you come and visit me. It is not right that we have been apart so long.

Oh, oh!! I know that one... Newsies!!! I started a Newsies Fan Club when I was in Jr High, so you can't stump me with that one!

How about this one:
"I'm a mean old hound dog
Howling at the moon.
'Cause I ain't got no... Little gal hound dog..."
(It's just not the same written out like that, is it?)

Such cute pics! So do you like how I called my sis "the brown one" she totally is! But no you aren't making it up I am 1/4 Alaskan Native American, well and so is my sister but she just looks it! I'm stuck with the pale skin, although I do tan good :)

Adrienne,
I don't know... all I know from my research is that Hank William Jr. sings the song... please do tell.

Graham didn't care to much for baby food. He loves whatever we're eating. Potty training hasn't been to hard for our kids. We also didn't do the power struggle over it. Maybe that was the reason.

Seven Brides for Seven Brothers

Margaret said...

Seven brides for seven brothers! Duh, I should've known that, but I just couldn't get it.
Good work Adrienne.
We need a blog devoted to guessing showtunes!

"Please, can't you see he's all I live for. I have him and nothing more..."
what's it from?

Margaret,
I am losing my confidence at this game. It seems like a line that could be from either Ms. Saigon, or Les Miserables.. those are my guesses. How about this one: "Five hundred twenty five thousand six hundred minutes"

Margaret said...

Oh Kara. It is Miss. Saigon...I have very vivid memories of you singing that. And the part where she sings/screams..."you will not take my child."

But I do know that the line you posted is Rent.

We met Sofia's Maryland twin! I'll have to send you a picture. LOVE your pictures. We may need Chris to take some shots of Cadie when we come to Corvallis in August. Tootles!
