Engergy Efficent Washers Stink (literally)

This is so random, but I am not digging out new energy efficient washer. I am all about using less water and being more efficient, but since it uses less water, I feel like it doesn't wash our clothes very well. Case in point: I just took clothes out of the dryer..one of the items being Sofia's training pants that still smell like pee. Clothes should not smell like pee when they come out of the dryer...it's just not right.

Kara this is good info. I've looked at those things before but is it worth it if you can't get rid of the stank of pee? I'd have to say no.

Kara dear,

I'm sorry but I think there might be something wrong with your washer. We've had an "energy efficient use less water one" for about 10 years and nothing has ever come out smelling like pee . . . Of course, Carlos hasn't had an accident in years :)

What kind do you have? I know when we were researching ours we found out about one kind that was going into a class action law suit for not draining the water properly or something, causing mildew and things to build up. Unfortunately, I can't remember what kind that was! We ended up with a Whirlpool Duet Sport (small version of the Whirlpool) and it's been great.

I agree. If I had known before we purchased ours, I would not have gone for it. Things do not get as clean. All my napkins smell sour. Maybe it is the model? I'd love to know about the class action lawsuit, maybe I could buy a water hog that works.

Yeah, saving a little water at the expense of bacteria ridden clothing is not a good trade. When I was little and CA had a drought we used to always say "If it's yellow let it mellow, if it's brown flush it down" -- this was taught in school. But just walk into a bathroom that's had lots of "mellowing" going on and you'll change your tune fast. Saving water is good with short showers, turning it off while brushing your teeth, etc. But saving it while bacteria infests your home? Not okay in my opinion.

That is gross and very disappointing.

Our washer is an LG Tromm, and I suppose that whether or not I love it, I am stuck with it for awhile. Just don't make fun of me if you are around me and my clothes stink :)
