I had a sick feeling in my gut all day yesterday after I saw this article in the New York Times:
I never go shopping the day after Thanksgiving, because it gives me anxiety thinking about a bunch of Americans in stores pushing each other around so they can save $20 on a kitchen aid (not saying that everyone is pushy obviously). I enjoy good shopping (too much sometimes), but shopping during the holiday season is not fun for me.
We as a society need to slow down. The fact that something like this could happen is just too difficult for me to imagine. It is disgusting and I am so sad that someone had to die because of people's need to consume. Hopefully this will be a lesson to us all! It definitely makes me rethink how I consume and do things.

AMEN sista!! The "holiday" season consumption kind of ruins it for me . . .
. . .and by "it" I mean the whole month of December. I make a VERY purposeful effort to maintain the true meaning and avoid the consumerism of it all.
Stuff, stuff, stuff -- leaves a sinking feeling in my gut too.
Oh my goodness it does make me sick! I love at the end of the article when they talked about the woman filing charges AFTER she finished shopping...
I CANNOT believe people are this way, just to save a $ or two. It makes me feel slightly, ok, really ashamed and embarrassed of our country and the way we have become as consumers but not only consumers but as a people.
The problem with our world going to pot is, all this stuff we consume over the Holidays is all gonna end up in a landfill in the next couple of years any way.
I am trying this year to make gifts more meaningful and less of them all together, we really don't NEED anything so why buy a lot when a little will do?! Or at least that is what I am trying to go by this year.
